the knitting news

there is none!
there are projects on the needles, which sometimes call to me, but I have been bewitched by needlepoint lately and have forsaken the circulars
of course I will return, for that is the point
meantime,
attractive yarn awaits me
awaits the making into garment process of knitpurlcombos

sometimes it is just enough to know that much, to know that it is there

these be the socks

indeed, these be the socks that were started waaay back in April with the Yarn Harlot's book launch here in Toronto.
they are stopped now. the full skein knitted up a pair of knee socks but I decided to yank them back and bravely took them off the needles and pulled out several inches of knitting. then I put the stitches back on the needles, picking up dropped stitches on one knit round before binding off.

and the baby sweater is done finished, the ends are all in, it's just not yet photographed, yet.

2 otn

& no pics. yet.
sorry!
the baby sweater is in with the delicates.
the socks are - two different lengths! crap. panicked at the little bit of yarn left and cast off without comparing them, and you can guess the result... about an inch of result! LOL
so now I get to learn how to undo a binding-off and knit that last yard.
or, I could shorten the other sock.
both would require the undoing of the binding business.
oh well.
just because I love my garden :-)

Happy Canada Day!

cotton on, and off, and on, and off, and on, and off again!

here is the baby sweater so far. it was almost a baby robe, or dress! I measured at 8.5" then knit merrily across town, back and forth, a couple of days... then at work I noticed it was a bit longish, measured again and it had grown to almost 12"!!! so there was some row removal. yes. frogs were everywhere! fearless. in rows. live stitches like so many frogs on a log. they re-needled easily enough though there was one dropped stitch which I knew I'd hoist up on my way through the row. indeed. it was hoisted up and I knitted on cheerily... but a Miss Clavel moment came shortly - something was not right - I had knitted on in the wrong direction from the dropped stitch. eek! the frogs chorused again until I was back to the 'pattern' row. then all the live stitches were definitively lined up on the needles again and the final several rows of garter stitch were solidly established. no more mistakes - sheesh, I'd've been done one sleeve! so after dinner I loosely and evenly did the binding off row and there it is. waiting for sleeves and its i-cord collar (Sunday, at the next class)
so after all that, some background. this is the baby sweater from the Lettuce Knit class. the remarkable human sunshine that is Denny is the guiding light for this endeavour. so far so good, but she swears that there will be dpns and that it will be good. she says that there are 'denny tricks' for dpn handling. we will see if she makes a believer out of me!
the socks I am making are worked on two circulars, which I am very much liking. at the Yarn Harlot birthday/ 1000 knitters Saturday, I saw a magic loop in action and it is good too. but we'll see what sunny Denny has up her sleeve for dpn handling this upcoming Sunday at the second class.
meantime, Jan has left for Moscow - HI Jan if you are reading this!!! - and I already miss her. to knit-togethers for the summer, but I am hoping she has a magnificent time there. she wouldn't sit for Franklin's 1000 knitters, but she was captured by other knitters and can be seen on some of other blogs, so it least it is documented that she was there... me, not so much! but then again, I am not a 'real' knitter! I have no real comprehension about this skill although I am enjoying it enormously.

not to make myself feel bad, but

I haven't finished the second sock! Jan is all encouragement, and bless her, counted the stitches in the first sock... because of course yours truly was all confidence that it couldn't be that hard. ha! it isn't hard, indeed, but w-r-i-t-i-n-g-d-o-w-n-y-o-u-r-s-t-e-p-s is a reallyreallyreallyreally good idea!
so many thanks, Jan! we are indeed on the way through the second turning of the sock. and there shall be an adam for the eve!
there should also be photos of that, instead there are pictures of this:

which was this:

and this:

it was sort of fun to do. I was sad that the yarn match was not perfect - nor was my stitching, really, my first go at 'kitchener stitch' (I don't think like a knitter enough to have that one, I just followed some examples on youtube aka my on-call knitting instructor!)

I have yet to surrender this lovely sweater back to its owner, I hope she's happy enough with the patches, a step up from holes, eh.

so, I've been knitting

and the second sock would basically be finished, but for all the tinking - or would that be gnittink? I like that, sounds like knitting!
so the second sock progresses, as a comparing to first sock/ trying it on as it progresses kind of pattern. they'll be similar if not identical.
it's hilarious though: $16 for a pair of socks that take months to complete! LOL
and I still have the second heel to turn.
anyway, I bought the June Metropass in order to finish the sock this month. though saving the money would have been good, and bicycling or walking to work would have been excellent... but we are staying another month with "knitting is good" transit :-)
